I've just started a new job as Country Manager, Saudi Arabia, for OKI, a Japanese printer company with some excellent products. I'm really enjoying it but it's a challenge to get under-performing distributors to improve.
My previous job was General Manager of a company selling computer hardware, accessories and consumables. I inherited a mess: it was losing money as quickly as you could throw it out of the window; it had very large stocks of obsolete inventory and high levels of bad debt; there were inadequate business controls; a complete lack of strategic direction; and expenses were unbelievably high. You name it - it was wrong (and getting worse by the day). I solved all of these problems, made an absolute fortune for my boss, and was rewarded by being dismissed in acrimonious circumstances. They still owe me a lot of money which I don't ever expect to see. There's more than one way to skin a cat - my turn will come.
